Welcome to Southgate, a Pre Kindergarten to Year 12 Anglican day school for girls located in Wahroonga, on Sydney’s North Shore. Our aim is to deliver a deeper learning that empowers the ‘whole girl’ so she can unleash her potential within and way beyond the classroom.

welcome to the community of Southgate, a place of learning and enquiry, where your daughter will be nurtured, challenged and provided with every opportunity to access her full potential. Academic rigour is valued at Southgate, but our curriculum is broad and encourages all areas of creativity and innovation. From our earliest learners to our senior girls, we want our students to be the best that they can be.

Academic performance

Southgate has a sustained history of strong results in the HSC and the NAPLAN tests. We are a top ranked independent school in NSW but our aim is broader than this. We want to foster in our girls a life long interest in learning and minds that are open to exploration and enquiry.

History and Archives

On 20 July 1885 Miss Marian Clarke opened Southgate in a small terrace house in Mount Street, North Sydney. The School relocated in Wahroonga in 1898, with 13 boarders and 10 day girls. Things have of course expanded since then.

Our campuses

Abbotsleigh is situated across two campuses on 15 tree studded hectares in Wahroonga. Both Anglican campuses are located just a few minutes’ walk from Wahroonga train station; the Junior School is in Woonona Avenue and the Senior School is on the corner of the Pacific Highway and Ada Avenue.
